My lessons are designed with a focus on achieving specific goals. Whether you're auditioning for an honor ensemble or working through school repertoire, I believe in setting clear objectives to help students progress. Both small and big victories not only build musical ability but also boost confidence—both as musicians and as individuals!

Focus on Fundamentals

Every lesson is rooted in essential musical fundamentals, which include but are not limited to:

• Technique

• Breath support

• Posture

• Embouchure

These fundamental skills form the foundation for successful learning and musical expression.

Comprehensive Learning Approach

Students will develop their skills through a variety of etude books and studies, while also engaging in activities like:

• Sight-reading

• Transposition

• Music theory

I emphasize well-rounded musicianship, ensuring that students gain a solid understanding of the elements that make up great music.

Duets and Ensemble Experience

I believe that playing alongside others is a crucial part of growing as a musician. In each lesson, I play duets with my students. This gives them the chance to hear what a professional sounds like and offers valuable experience playing with another bassoonist.

Reed-Making for Advanced Students

For students who reach a more advanced level, we dive into reed-making. This skill is essential for furthering a student’s growth on the bassoon, allowing them to customize their sound and understand the finer details of the instrument.

Lessons for Every Level

I teach bassoon students at all levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and needs, ensuring a positive and engaging experience. My goal is to help each student excel while making every lesson enjoyable and inspiring!

Teaching Locations and Virtual Lessons

I currently teach as part of the Portland Music Collective, a local organization based in Southeast Portland. I also offer virtual lessons for students anywhere, making it easy to connect and learn from the comfort of your own home.
